Why South-East deserves to produce the next Senate President – Bello Osaretin

March 3, 2023
in Opinion

Today, the presidential elections has come and gone, the winner of the contest declared and the storm of election razzle is gradually settling down.

The question now is that, to what extent would any strategy deployed to bring everybody on board, especially the political super heavyweights of the South Eastern extractions into the jumbo jet acquired on the spectrum of national progression, accommodation and cohesion.

The narrative brings to the front burner the essence and need to appeal to that section of the country perceived to be politically marginalised over the years on both federal and political appointments.

In lieu of the above, lets xray the power equation and practical approach to equity, fairness and justice in an heterogeneous society like Nigeria as we match forward.

A couple of days ago to be precise on the 25th of February 2023, the South-West region produced the president elect in the keenly contested election, the North-East had the vice president elect, the North-Central before now has the National Chairman position of our great party(APC) to their kittens.

However, the choice of Senate President, Secretary to Government of the Federation and Speaker of the National Assembly are on the table for grab and awaits proper redistribution to the appropriate zones.

Looking at observables, it is imperative for the position of Senate President to be considered for the South-East region in fairness to the people across the Niger, essentially to balance the new power equation as envisioned and as well to appeal to the stream of consciousness of the people.

I hereby called on all well meaning leaders of thought across the states to concede to this great idea of equitable distribution of power in the next administration and beyond political alignments, the fundamental of this advocacy is to promote government of national unity and acceptability to create viable political atmosphere for peace and development.

To this end, there are tested and trusted political gladiators that are eminently qualified to occupy the proposed position that is being canvassed to the Eastern region, which in due course will be micro-zoned to the state with the most ranking senator of the party in the 10th Senate.

Let’s build Nigeria together.

Comrade Bello Osaretin,
A political alchemist,
Writes from Abuja
