One of the greatest essence of Representative Democracy, is that elected officials are expected to give account of their stewardship from time to time.
The inherent benefit is that it offers the constituents the opportunity to interact with their representatives, get feedback from them and as well as make input for the betterment of their area.
By September 2022, the President will be presenting the 2023 Budget Proposal to the National Assembly for consideration and approval.
How many of our Senators and Representatives are going about getting input from their Constituents, so as to know areas of needs and interest that will form part of their own contribution when the budget is being debated on the floor of the National Assembly?
So I give it to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for leading the way in this regard by touring all the wards in Abia North Senatorial Districts, meeting and interacting with his constituents and giving account of his stewardship, knowing their needs and problems and offering solutions.
This is indeed Democracy in action and I commend Senator Kalu for this. It is really phenomenal. Let other elected Representatives learn from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and follow suit as their annual recess will soon be over !
