Not less than three days until the scheduled Nov. 6 – Anambra State governorship election, residents have started to flee their respective homes over insecurity.
Abacityblog recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had fixed November 6, 2021 for the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, however, there have been rumors flying around that the election would not hold.
The order, according to reports was allegedly given by the members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. The separatist group also went ahead and declared sit-at-home protest, from Nov 5th to press home their need for the federal government to release their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is currently being detained in the custody of the DSS.
Following the order of “No Election”, which IPOB had subsequently denied, there has been so much insecurity in the Anambra State, although, Security agencies have been deployed to restore normalcy, despite that, residents have been fleeing in their numbers over fear of the unknown.
A twitter user, @Munonyeyi shared the video and photos of people queuing in the motor park across the State trying to board a vehicle to travel out of the state.
These people, according to him are possible voters and these mass exodus of people could only cause voter apathy.
He wrote;
“There is a massive exodus of people out of Anambra and these are possible voters. I am at one of Ekwulobia urban mass transit parks in Ekwulobia and there are no cars for Nsukka, Enugu or Abakaliki which are their massive routes. Romchi park which is close by is also empty.
“This mass exodus is expected to last till just before the elections. The large numbers of travellers are putting strain on other cars covering local routes. There are even no cars going from Ekwulobia to Awka from that park at the moment.
“Voter apathy driven by insecurity and uncertainty is taking shape. #AnambraDecides2021
