Three Policemen have been reportedly killed in Ebonyi State by uknown gunmen.
Reports has it that the three cops were gunned down Monday night at a checkpoint along Ezillo axis of the Enugu-Abakaliki Express road in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The policemen, who were said to have mounted a roadblock for their routine stop and search in front of the Ezillo police station, were killed when the gunmen opened fire on them.
It was learnt that the gunmen were in a hummer bus, which the policemen may have mistaken for a commercial vehicle.
“The remains of the three police victims have been deposited at a mortuary in Abakaliki after they were confirmed dead by doctors,” the source said.
Vanguard reported that the Gunmen were repelled as they were unable to gain access into the Police Area Command which is situated inside the Ishielu Local Government Headquarters.
Police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident .
She however said she cannot give details of casualty figures until after a visit to the scene of the incident.
