Student jailed for Criticizing Aisha Buhari Once Threatened to deal with Those Mourning Deborah Samuel

Old controversial tweets of Aminu Mohammed, a student who had been remanded in prison for criticizing Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari has surfaced online.

In the tweets, Aminu had threatened to deal with those mourning the death of Deborah Samuel, a Christian girl who was killed in Sokoto by Islamic mob over alleged blasphemy.

It would be recalled that condemnation trailed the murder of the 21-year-old female Christian student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, who was brutally murdered by Muslim extremists for allegedly making a blasphemous comment.

Aminu Mohammed, like other Muslim faithfuls in the Northern Nigeria, justified the killing of Deborah.

Justifying the killing of the student, Aminu shared a picture of Deborah’s face on a shirt and warned that those who wear such shirt in Bauchi would be very well dealt with.

He wrote: “Duk Wanda yasa wannan rigar ah Bauchi sai munchi uwarsa” which translates to “whosoever wears this shirt in bauchi will be dealt with!”

Following his ordeal in the hands of the first lady, Aisha Buhari, some renowned figures who had called for Aminu’s release have now distanced themselves from him.

Investigative journalist, David Hundeyin in a twitter post, said he regret retweeting a tweet calling for the release of Aminu, while sharing the snapshot of the latter’s old tweet.

He tweet: “I earnestly apologise for retweeting the appeal to free this fellow. May he remain inside that cell for as long as Deborah’s family is denied justice, plus some extra time for accrued interest…”

David went further to say Deborah’s death deserve more attention than that of Aminu’s ordeal following the facts that the Police is yet to apprehend those behind her death.

“Deborah Samuel’s case remains in limbo. The authorities have not been able to charge the principal murder suspect whom they claim fled to Niger Republic. Her family needs justice.

“I think that’s objectively a more urgent priority than any of Aisha Buhari’s shenanigans anyway.”
