Igwe, a professor of Soil Science was elected the 15th VC of the prestigious UNN on Thursday last week when he defeated over 70 other professors who went into the race to emerge victorious.

In a statement signed by the President General of COSEYL, Chief Goodluck Egwu Ibem, the group also congratulated Prof. Igwe and charged him to take Nigeria’s first Indigenous University to a greater hight.

“We congratulate Prof. Charles Arizechukwu Igwe on his transparent election as the new vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) by the university’s governing council.

“As a renowned professor of soil science with many accolades, we know his worth, and therefore call on him to use his good office and experience to position that foremost university of our pride for greater contributions to the agricultural revolutionary policies of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“We sincerely believe that as long as the Agricultural sector is concerned, the President can now sleep with his eyes closed because Prof. Igwe will make research-based contributions to the development of agriculture within the next five years he’ll serve as VC in UNN.

“Our Universities are supposed to be the starting points of every research that will help develop this country and with a renowned agriculturally sound academic like him in charge of one of our best universities, we believe that the time to revive agricultural sector is here with us.”

The youth leaders charged Igwe to capitalize on his vast experience as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration in the university and a former Dean of Faculty of Agriculture to solve the myraids of hurdles facing the institution.

COSEYL called on other contestants who lost and some other persons said to be protesting against his emergence to end the tussle, see his victory as the will of God for the institution and the nation at large.

“We therefore call on those who contested with him and those protesting against his emergence as Vice Chancellor of our prestigious University to stop protesting and join hands with him to take the university to greater heights.

“His election is a product of careful professional considerations and discretion well exercise. We are very confident that he is the candidate that will take the university to the next level.

“He has the uncommon blend of intellectual temerity, strength of character and better mental capacity to take the university to greater heights.”
