Sen. Orji Kalu honours late Chief Egwuonwu

The funeral services of Late Chief Egwuonwu and Late Ugoeze Uzaru held on Thursday was honored with the presence of the Chief Whip of the 9th Senate and former Governor of Abia Attention Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

The funeral services held at separate venues asides the Senate Chief Whip was honored by a long list of dignitaries who graced the funeral events to pay their last respect to the deceased persons.

Earlier in his speech Senator Kalu while addressing the audience gathered at Ezigbere Primary school, Okafia Igbere, to pay their last respect to late Ugoeze urged the guests to appreciate the life of Ugoeze.

Kalu emphasised that the late Ugoeze spent a life worthy of emulation stating that she left behind lasting legacies.

He said “We have to thank God for her life because she lived a very good life.

“We must all realise that one day we shall all die, but what matters most is the kind of life we live and the type of legacy that shall leave behind because no one can escape death.

“We thank God for her life and I urge everyone of us here to dedicate our lives to christ.

The funeral service was presided over by Rev James Okafor, the Parish minister of St Paul’s Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Okafia parish.

Shortly after his speech Senator Kalu and his entourage proceeded to attend the funeral ceremony of late Chief Egwuonwu which was holding at Emmanuel Hart Memorial Cathedral, Okoko Item presided by the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Item.

Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria and officiating Minister His Eminence Dr. S.C.K. Uche in his sermon asked the audience to seek the kingdom of God. We told the audience to imbibe the spirit of meekness and humility.

The Methodist cleric recounted the characters of the late Egwuonwu whom he described as a diligent, honest and transparent man while he lived on earth.

In his words “We humans live our lives, like there is no death. It’s only God who cannot die, we brag when we are merely dust. Our focus while here on earth should be to make heaven.

“Those who hate evil will live forever and shall inherit the kingdom of God. Egwuonwu shall forever be remembered because he was diligent, upright , transparent in his dealings.

Senator Kalu in his address said the life of Egwuonwu is worth celebrating , saying that the late Egwuonwu was an achiever.
