Gov. Nyesom Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in the March 9 polls in Rivers, took an early lead on Tuesday as election results collation resumed in Port Harcourt.
The governorship and State House of assembly electoral process in Rivers was suspended on March10 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The electoral umpire also announced a schedule of activities for the resumption of elections in Rivers, stating that the resumption of collation and announcement of results would hold between April 2 and April 5.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that at Tuesday’s collation, results were announced by collation officers in 10 out of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.
The results being collated across the state showed that Wike was leading in eight LGAs out of 10 LGAs.
The results also showed that the African Alliance Congress (AAC) candidate, Biokpomabo Awara, who trailed behind led in Akuku-Toru and Oyibo LGAs of the state.
Wike was leading with 249,397 votes while Awara was trailing behind with 108,886 votes in the results collated so far from the 10 LGAs out of the 17 LGAs.
The local government areas are Port Harcourt City, Ikwere, Andoni, Oyibo, Eleme, Opobo-Nkoro, Bonny, Okirika, Akuku-Toru and Omuma.
Results from seven other LGAs are yet to be announced.(NAN)
