Palm Seedling: Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation empowers Abians through Agriculture

Agriculture – they said is one of the lucrative business of our time. No wonder Orji Uzor Kalu foundation has queued into it.

To make this as a reality, Abia North Senator-elect, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, through his foundation has unveiled plans to empower Abia indigent through palm seedlings.

The former governor, who founded the foundation hinted the reasons behind this move. Even though, he is yet to be sworn in as a senator, Kalu said his constituents will benefit a lot from his representation at the National Assembly.

Speaking yesterday, at the All Progressive Congress, APC, Abia State chapter, held in his country home in Igbere, Bende LGA, Abia State. The former governor said the distribution of the palm seedlings will begin in a few days.

Flagging off the distribution at the meeting attended by the state APC bigwigs, Kalu gave the party members representing different political offices and those who contested during the last general and state elections, germinated palm trees.

Those who received are: Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, representing Umunneochi/Isuikwuato federal constituency. Barrister Benjamin Kalu, representing Bende Federal Constituency. Deputy governorship candidate in the last election, Sir Martins Azubike, etc.

Speaking on how to be eligible to receive the palm seedlings, Kalu said his foundation OUKF, has taken all the necessary steps through registering those who are interested by filling forms.

But, though he hinted some crucial steps that qualifies anyone/family who wished to benefit from the empowerment.

According to him, instead of giving people money, it’s better to empower them to help themselves.

To benefit, the business mogul said, each family in Abia or beyond must present their lands to his foundation committee, and showcase the ownership. There will be no room for fraudulent activities.

“Before we give out these palm seedlings, our foundation will examine the land. In each family, there must be an agreement between them… Starting from the father and the son. (First son). If they agree in good term, we will now release the palm seedlings to them.

“We have taken this measure to avoid fight/quarrel in each beneficiary families. And this has nothing to do with party, anyone can benefit, be it APC, PDP or APGA.

“The palm seedlings has no limits, even you have 1000 or 5000 acres of land we will give palm seedlings that will be due for the land”, Kalu promised.
