Ohanaeze Ndigbo Election: Nwodo Lacks Power To Summon Ime Obi – OYC

The National Executive Council (NEC) of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the apex youth body of Óhanaeze Ndigbo has described the Ime-Obi meeting summoned by Chief Nnia Nwodo as illegal and unconstitutional.

Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka the National President of OYC while answering questions from newsmen in Owerri on Tuesday 22nd Dec. 2020 described Nwodo as “a stubborn fly that follows carcass to the grave.”

He stated that Nwodo has set a bad precedent being the first president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to violate Article, 10, 11 and 21 of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution.

In a press statement signed by Chukwuemeka Chimera, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to OYC National President, said Igboayaka noted that the Ime-Obi that was called on 20th Dec. 2020 at Nike Lake Resort Enugu, was not summoned by the Secretary-General, Bar. Uche Okwukwu in line with constitutional provision of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution, Article 11 page 14 paragraph(8) which stated that “President General through the Secretary General can summon the general meetings of the National Executive Committee, the Council of Elders, Ime-Obi and General Assembly.”

On the purported suspension of Okwukwu, OYC referred Nwodo and his cliques to Article 21 (ii) page 20 which stated that, “The General Assembly may, on a motion of no confidence supported by two thirds majority of members present and voting, remove any member of the organs and officers of Ohanaeze from office, provided that in the case of the president-general, deputy president-general, the state where he comes from shall be entitled to nominate candidates for election by the General Assembly to replace him.”

It is, therefore, regrettable that Ndigbo have not risen to ask which General Assembly removed the secretary general. This is the high level of social, cultural and political irresponsibility by the self-acclaimed leaders in Ohanaeze Ndigbo as they lack sense of honour and dignity to protect and uphold the constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Igboayaka noted that all elders and leaders who are behind this impunity and choreographed plan to rig the forthcoming Ohanaeze Ndigbo election must pay dearly for it and will confront the wrath and resistance of Igbo youths at due time.

Igboayaka maintained that Nwodo have murdered sleep by accepting the list given to him by Governors Nyesom Wike, Hope Uzodinma, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to form the election committee of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for 2021 election, even after the rejection of the list by many Igbo groups such as Alaigbo Development Foundation(ADF) and others.

“It is on record that at the election of Jeo Irukwu who hail from Abia state, the election was held in Owerri, at the election of Dozie Ikedife who hail from Anambra, the election was held in Abia, at the election of Uwaechie who hail from Delta the election was held in Awka, at the election of Igariwey who hail from Ebonyi, the election was held in Enugu and at the election of Nwodo himself who hail from Enugu, due to the inability of states to accept to host it, it was held at the Ohanaeze Secretariat in Enugu. It has become obvious today that my allegations of electoral fraud and hijack of electoral process has now manifested as Nnia Nwodo conspired with Governor Hope Uzodinma to hold the election in Imo state instead of another state hence it is the turn of Imo state to produce the next president general” We therefore have rejected in its entirety the plan of holding Ohanaeze Ndigbo Election in Imo State, as such plan was made by few political maradonas to upturn the result of the election” Igboayaka stated.

Nnia Nwodo is hellbent to use nominees from governors as Ohanaeze Ndigbo electoral committee which has vindicated my outcry over his plans to sell Ohanaeze Ndigbo to governors who are Northern errand boys in the Southeast.

It is disheartening that since one week presidency delegates of about three persons have been in Imo state scheming, and the result of the scheming and lobbying has manifested as they are the brain behind holding the Ohanaeze Ndigbo election in Imo state were Governor Hope Uzodinma will have an upper hand to rig the election in favour of his preferred candidates who were accepted by the North. I, therefore, call upon Gen. Ebitu Ukiwe, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Chief Tony Okeke, Prof. Gregory Ibe, Gen. Ijeoma N. Ijeoma, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, Bishop AJV Obinna, Bishop Emmanuel Chuwkuma and other Igbo patriots to rise now and summon a meeting to stop the ongoing plan to sell Ohanaeze Ndigbo to governors and northern mafians or Igbo youths will rise and do it their own way.

Igboayaka maintained that the electoral members are core loyalists of governors, saying that if they go ahead to conduct the election, such process will produce ‘Ohanaeze Ndigbo Governor’s Forum’ not Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

OYC, therefore, is using this medium to give a final warning to Southeast governors to steer clear from Ohanaeze Ndigbo election, for we have defined the election as the foundation of our new survival for the Igbo youths.

Igboayaka noted that Governor Hope Uzodinma has maintained administrative decorum in Imo state beyond the expectations of those who think he is coming to run a ‘throw party government’, declaring that the governor is one of the most administrative careful governors of Imo state, and advised him not to allow the election of Ohanaeze Ndigbo dent his image or sees him as an enemy of Ndigbo.

Consequently, the Ohanaeze Youth Council has given Nnia Nwodo 12-day ultimatum to amend his error, impurities, swallow his ego and call Bar. Uche Okwukwu to hold a legally recognized Ime-Obi meeting with the original list of electoral body or be ready to have social earthquake from over 30 million Igbo youths all over the world.
