Bende Federal Constituency Representative Elect, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, today held a meeting of his campaign council.
Ditching the traditional practice of disbanding the campaign council immediately after victory pending a reelection bid, Ben Kalu charged the council with new terms of reference.
Ben Kalu laid out his agenda and blue print for achieving his manifesto and keeping campaign promises in areas including education, agriculture, employment, health and women and youth empowerment.
He expressed his intention to actively engage the campaign council as the core executive team of his constituency projects and all other promises made during his campaign.
“Now is not the time to frivolously celebrate our victory at the polls” he said, “While, we are elated at our decisive win, now is the time to strap up and get to work.”
He continued, “we will no longer campaign with posters, flyers and radio jingles. We will now campaign with projects and evidence of lives touched throughout our time at the National Assembly.”
Moved by his address, a member of the campaign council thanked Ben Kalu for his commitment to honouring his campaign promises and for what he described as a sincerity of intent inspired by the spirit of God.
According to another campaign council member, “this is the first time in the history of politics in Bende that a politician who emerged successful in an election stayed back to chart a course for community development with his campaign council as opposed to the usual practice of abandoning the council and running away until reelection time 4 years later.”
