Abia LGA election: APC charges ABSIEC to be free & fair to all parties

October 5, 2020
in Aba News

The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Comrade Benedict Godson has called on Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to give the people of the state a free and fair local government election come December 19th 2020.

Godson made the call yesterday in Obohia Ward, Ukwa East Local Government Area of the state where Chief Ugochuckwu Ndubuisi declared his intentions to run for Chairmanship position in the platform of APC.

He charged ABSIEC to allow the people of Abia State chose who will manage their affairs in the wards and council ls and help bring Government closer to them.

Godson warned that APC will never tolerate any form of electoral malpractice, stressing that the liberation of Abia from bad governance must start from the wards, the councils before moving to the state level.

“If we must cleanse Abia from backward leadership, selfish and anti people governance, we must begin at the grassroots. We can’t have Councilors and Chairmen that the people imposed on the people. Their votes must count and we’ll ensure they count.

“You can see the people here today to witness just this declaration. This is my own ward and I’m happy that the people called on this young gentleman to come and help them. We are sure that with free and fair election, APC will surely win many LGAs in Abia starting with this our Ukwa East.

“We challenge ABSIEC to give Abians free and fair election so that people can actually feel what grassroots government is all about. We must use this election to show our people that local government is an important tier of government in the Federal System. It’s
theirs because it’s the government that’s closer to them and understands them better.”

Speaking on the aspirant, Godson said, “Our aspirant who declared today has led as President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Madrid, Spain. He understands local politics because he’s always coming home.

“He loves his people. He’s a young gentleman. It was his people that pleaded with him to come out for this election. Imposing someone strange to the local people is not the best and it’ll not work this time around.

“Local people have theirs goals and aspirations. These goals and aspirations can only be achieved if someone who understands them, speaks their language is in charge at the council. APC has all it takes to win in Ukwa East both in the wards and the council.”

Earlier on, Chief Ugochuckwu Ndubuisi said the motivating factor in his decision to run for LGA Chairmanship election is his people and their pitiable condition which according to him keep getting worst.

He said, “The motivating factor for me here isn’t the position of a Chairman. It’s what to do with such positions. Here in Ukwa East, we’ve had political leaders up till number three citizen of Nigeria, yet our local infrastructure is terrible.

“Hunger is killing my people, my people have no skill acquisition programme, no empowerment and no direction for any of them. As an individual, I’ve done what I can to help the situation, but more need to be done.

“LGA Chairmanship position to many isn’t the biggest position, but it is a place I think I can use to impact better and positive changes in my people’s lives locally. I don’t need to be higher to touch their lives. As an individual I’ve done it, but they need more.

“All they need is the basic infrastructure that only Government can provide so that they can kick start better lives. If I can remember, for the past 10-12 years if I’m right, we’ve not had our electricity work for even five minutes.

“As for the election, I didn’t bring out myself, my people did so, I’m comfortable and optimistic that I’ll win both my party’s primary election and the main election come December 19th 2020.”

Aba City Blog reports that the declaration was attended by elders, women, youths and local political leaders from Ukwa East LGA both of the APC and the neutral people who came to give support for Ndubuisi.
