Statutory delegates, comprising ward and chapter officers, former elected officers of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State have endorsed Chief Kalu Idika Okwara for the governorship in 2023.

The party men and women, numbering more than 200, said they had resolved to support Idika Okwara to succeed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023, noting that power should return to Abia North senatorial district.

Speaking for the group, Hon. Achonwa Kalu, said they had seen in Idika Okwara, the charisma, capacity, character, love for the people, ideas and passion to drive economic and social development of the state and decided to endorse him for the general good of Abians.

Kalu said: “We are taking this bold step for the general good of our state. We started mobilising ourselves for Idika Okwara’s governorship project in 2019; today we have mobilised delegates to come here and endorse him. We believe in him, we will vote for him.”

He said they were not perturbed by recent political happenings in the state, insisting that their resolution to support Idika Okwara at the party primary was absolute.

Similarly, a coalition of youth groups have urged the oil and gas expert to join the 2023 governorship election in Abia state.

The group under the aegis of Kalu Idika Ambassadors (KIA), noted that Idika Okwara remained the most credible person to succeed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023.

Hon. Nze Princewill, Deputy Director General of the group, in a statement issued in Ohafia on Friday at the end of the familiarization tour to Ohafia local government area by the Abia State PDP Chairman, Hon. Alwell Asiforo, noted that they would mobilise funds for the purchase of expression of interest form for Idika Okwara to contest the governorship election.

The group stated, “We further call on the People’s Democratic Party to nominate Chief Kalu Idika Okwara as the party’s governorship flag bearer for 2023 General Elections.

“While we await his decision we shall intensify our drive across the state to raise partners and supporters for him. We shall equally continue the process of building structures in all the wards to bring to reality our dream of having Kalu Idika Okwara as the next governor of Abia state.

“We believe Kalu Idika Okwara should run by the sheer strength of his character and that he will win by the strength of the people’s power.”

However, they called on the Kalu Idika to heed the call of Abians and declare his intention to run for the office of the Governor of Abia state.
