Members of the Abia Progressive Initiative, have insisted that Chief Kalu Idika Okwara is in good stead to succeed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the expiration of the latter’s tenure in May 2023.
The group position was made known in Aba during the inauguration of Ward Coordinators across Obingwa and Osisioma local government areas by its Director General, Prince Solomon Nze.
According to Nze, the governorship position might elude Ohafia in 2023 if any wrong move, such as failure to seriously consider total backing for Kalu Idika Okwara occurs.
“Ohafia clan must unite now and act fast because this is the best opportunity for them to produce the next governor of Abia state.
“This is not about zoning, but about our conviction, trust and faith in someone with enormous capacity to deliver.
“So, whether zoning or no zoning, we strongly believe that Kalu Idika is the best person to succeed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023. So, if Abians say they want a governor from Abia North, Kalu Idika is still the best governorship material because of his solid stance on the Abia project.”
The group, therefore, urged Mben Political Assembly, Ohafia Improvement Union, Ohafia Summit, monarchs and stakeholders across the clan, political elites, business moguls and leaders of thought to rally round and adopt Kalu Idika as its sole candidate in the overall interest of Ohafia and Abia state.
The statement continued: “Ohafia cannot afford to keep distracting themselves with wrong steps and faulty strategy at the risk of neglecting its priority of succeeding Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
“Chief Kalu Idika has the requisite character, capacity, capability and the intellect to run Abia state to the satisfaction of the generality of the populace.
“We, therefore, call on our brothers not to jeopardize the interest of Ohafia by playing to the gallery. It is time to rally round Kalu Idika, as he remains the best to succeed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023,” the group said.
