A Media Aide to the former Governor of Abia State Dr. Orji Uzor kalu has reacted to the statement credited to Senator Mao Ohuabunwa representing Abia-North during a live on air debate attended by only the Senator himself.
Senator Mao had accused the former Governor and APC Chieftain who left public office 12 years ago for being the cause of the current erosional problem in the Senatorial zone.
In a statement released on the Social Media platform of Mr. Kenneth Udeh the Special Assistant on Media to Dr. kalu, described the tenure of Senator Mao as a failed one which brought shame to the people of Abia North.
He said: “Listening to Mao-Ohuabunwa debate against himself on radio reminds of a self-acclaimed Senator who ought not to have anything to do with a public office in the first instance. It wouldn’t be out of place to state categorically that Abia-North has been without a Senator in the last 4 years. As expected Senator Mao debated and still failed against his own self on radio.
It was unfortunateness at its peak listening to Senator Mao Ohuabunwa accuse Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu for being cause of the erosion bedeviling Abia-North.
Ordinarily the debate session could have been the golden opportunity for Mao-Ohuabunwa to apologize for the “shame” he instituted on the good people of Abia-North due his 4 years of conspicuous failure and gross mis-representation. It would have been better for him to step aside from the 2019 contest.
The non-attendance of Dr. Kalu and other Senatorial candidates to the debate was a crystal clear sign that Mao-Ohuabunwa is not regarded as a Senator and that he has been rejected and totally abandoned by the good people of Abia-North.
It’s unfathomable and highly unreasonable for Mao Ohuabunwa to have the temerity to accuse Dr. kalu a man whom after his sterling performance left public office as Governor precisely 12 years ago for being the cause of a current erosion problem 12 years after.
Rather than explaining to his constituents and the entire Abia how he, T.A. Orji and the present PDP led administration spent the huge sums of ecological and constituency project funds they had received in the last 3 years he was there accusing Orji Kalu for his fraudulent representation. Mao Ohuabunwa in his usual manner of deceit and slander decided to dish out cheap lies to the public attributing the cause of the erosion to an issue between former President Obasanjo and Dr. Orji Uzor kalu in 1999.
Let’s assume Senator Mao Ohuabunwa suffered “dementia” during the debate we advise him to drink from the pot of history rather than distorting history by reminding him that the same former President Olusegun Obasanjo had a smooth harmonious working relationship with Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu as Governor to the extent that he named him the “Action Governor” this was not until when Dr. kalu insisted on having more Federal projects in Abia State.
Another major issue which between former President Obasanjo and Dr.kalu which is well known to all well informed Nigerians was Obasanjo’s 3rd term agenda.
Dr. Kalu in his selfless character not minding the consequences in his bid to defend the constitution of the country fought the anti-constitutional 3rd term agenda to stand still.
It was also evident that Senator Mao is obviously existing like a relic of a lost age by saying Dr. Kalu had nothing to “offer “.
Such statement is not just erroneous but very pitiful coming from a self-acclaimed Senator whose name does not ring a bell even in his own Local Government Ward.
“Senator Mao Ohuabunwa is a personality whom in a normal circumstance is not worthy to be discussed alongside Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu not to talk of comparison at any level.
“For the records it is a statement of undeniable fact that Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu despite leaving public office 12 years ago is more popular, influential and has facilitated infrastructural projects than most current public office holders in Nigeria today.
“In addition to his numerous empowerments in previous years Dr. Kalu in January last year propelled by his passion to uplift the less privileged through the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation inaugurated an empowerment for people in 17 Local Government Areas LGAs.
“The scheme involved giving of a revolving zero interest free loan designed to support petty businesses and fleet of Sienna buses for transportation. The programme was inaugurated by Chief John Oyegun, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The scheme was part of a personal initiative of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu to empower and alleviate the sufferings of people of the state. Seven Sienna buses were handed out to beneficiaries from five local governments of Abia North, Dr Kalu’s senatorial districts, as well as Aba North and South council areas of the state.
“In terms of infrastructure without holding a public office Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has facilitated over 30 Federal Government road projects in the Abia-North senatorial district a good example is the Ohafia/Arochukwu Highway so many others including he the road passing right through Senator Mao Ohuabunwa’s house.
“Mao has been claiming that he facilitated some of these projects he went to the extent of mounting his billboards beside these projects all in a bid to deceive the people that he facilitated them. We challenge Senator Mao Ohuabunwa to be truthful and tell the people what he has actually done for them in the past four years.
“One would have expected such magnanimous gesture by Dr. Kalu would spur a public office holder like Mao-Ohuabunwa to sit up and do what is expected of him unfortunately he failed yet again.
“Just a Month after Dr. Kalu launched his empowerment scheme the opposite was the case for Mao-Ohuabunwa as he looked at the good people of Abia-North and had the courage to degrade them by presenting them with “Frying Pans” as a form empowerment.
“The entire Media was awash with the news of Senator giving out “frying Pans” as most online users made caricature of Abia-North. The Abia north Senator was made a subject of mockery by social media users for empowering his constituents with frying pans. This was a shame Mao Ohuabunwa brought to Abia-North. To add more insult to injury Mao still went ahead to defend such shameless motive saying ‘he had no regrets’.
“In the same Month of February while Senator Mao was busy distributing frying pans to empower his people another Senator in faraway Southwest, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari representing Oyo North was busy uplifting over 1000 persons in his constituency with 36 cars, 300 motorcycle, 300 sewing machines, 400 grinding machines, 40 deep freezers, power generating sets and 13 electric transformers. It is important to note that both Senator Mao and Abdulfatai were elected in the same year 2015. Senator Mao should rather hide is face in perpetual shame.
“Mao Ohuabunwa launched non-existent federal constituency developmental projects which was expected to be implemented in Bende community, at a whooping N75million was allotted for -a primary healthcare centre (PHC) with a solar borehole projected at N45million, PHC staff quarters projected to cost N20million, and a solar borehole for N10 million. Locating the sites of these N75million ghost projects will be an effort in futility. Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, was supposed to build the health centre with the solar borehole but till date the maternity centre is still in it’s a dilapidated state.
“The issue of erosion has remained an ecological disaster waiting to happen with residents living in the fear of losing their lives and modest properties to the gully yet they have a Senator at the National Assembly.
“We challenge Senator Mao – Ohuabunwa, T.A. Orji, Okezie Ikpeazu and other PDP cronies to give an account of over 15 billion ecological funds released by the Federal Government to tackle erosion instead of blaming Dr. Kalu.
“Abia state in last 12 years has witnessed the worst form of governance from the non-payment of salaries and pensions, decay in education, abandonment of critical infrastructure, environmental degradation and filth just to mention a few.
“February 16th is fast approaching and this ineffectual Senator called Mao-Ohuabunwa must be stopped from putting AbiaNorth to further ridicule. it presents yet again a perfect opportunity to redeem the battered image of not just Abia-North but Abia State in general by voting out the entire Ikpeazu PDP led Government in the state at all levels.
