As the protest for #EndSARS and #EndPoliceBrutality seems to have ended. Nigerians are looking forward for a new security formation named; SWAT.
SWAT was a new name given by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Adamu, following the dissolution of the defunct SARS, which was accused of brutality, extortion, intimidation and many other crimes.
Shortly after SARS was dissolved, Nigerians saw in the news that the new SWAT are undergoing training and will be sent back to the street to start the work which SARS was created which stand for; Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
But in what could be described as confusion, Nigerians are reacting as another new security formation parading on the road, known as NDLEA SWAT are stopping vehicles and searching peoples phones.
Although, before now, Nigeria has a unit known as NDLEA, which specialized in checkmating abuse of drugs. But the new security formation bearing the two names is indeed confusing Nigerians.
On twitter, many are asking what the new NDLEA SWAT stand for. Since the country already has the latter as unit known for checkmating drug abuse.
They also alleged that the new security formation also stop vehicles and search people’s phone without warrant.
“PLEASE, WHICH ONE IS NDLEA SWAT?
WHO ARE THEY?
WHEN WERE THEY CREATED?
WHO AUTHORISED THEM TO SEARCH PHONES? – a twitter user wrote.
Another user wrote: “I know NDLEA deals with drug dealers. SWAT formed to be dealing with Cyber theft. Which one is now NDLEA SWAT?
“NDLEA SWAT checking peoples phones. This should be stopped before its even allowed to start. And what’s this obsession with checking peoples phones? – a twitter user wrote while sharing, the photo of the NDLEA SWAT.

The attention of the authorities is hereby called again to the brigandage & organized crime syndicate at the @ndlea_nigeria opposite Murtala international airport Lagos. They raid hotels, abducting young people for ransom. As we speak they’re demanding N2M per head from captives.
