Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has said his administration will continue to discharge its salary obligations to over 24,000 civil servants working in core ministries in the state and promised to pay December salaries for them to have a memorable Christmas celebration.
The governor in an exclusive interview with ABN TV said he will also continue to support workers in departments and agencies through subventions to keep them afloat.
He however charged revenue-generating agencies to be prudent in the management of their resources so as to be able to cater for their salaries without looking at the direction of the state government.
He tasked them to drive their agencies with private sector mentality to function optimally.
“Abia workers will be paid their salaries, I pray and hope that I will have enough to appreciate them and give them more than their salaries” he said.
While the core civil servants in various ministries in the state account for about 24,000 out of 27,000 civil servants, the rest are from departments and agencies, the governor said.
He said none of the 24,000 are owed anything in form of salary and that their Christmas salaries will come.
