The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has declared that Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) is no longer wanted in their oil-rich community.
Fegalo Nsuke (MOSOP president), in a statement termed the oil company as a “Killer”, he also accused them of sponsoring terrorists.
“As far as our people are concerned, Shell has caused the death of thousands, and the firm has succeeded in destroying the area and the future of the Ogoni nation,” he said.
On the recent court judgment compelling the Federal Government to renew the licence of the multinational in Ogoniland, Nsuke said their concerns border on “violations against the people and they must should be addressed.”
Nsuke maintained that his people would not accept Shell whether its licence was renewed or not, urging government to appeal the ruling and engage the indigenes robustly.
“The judgment is not important to the Ogoni. What is important to the people is their rights and respect for their dignity,” he added.
