Your new engagement ring holds a world of significance. That beautiful ring on your finger is the herald of a whole new life! And you’re in a tizzy of excitement, so you want the world to know.
But how? You’re not into getting “tacky” but you want people to notice the ring and you want them to ooh and awe over it when they do. You’re excited, so everyone else should be too, right? Of course!
But there’s more than one way to flaunt your engagement ring and some of those ways are actually classy. So let’s look at some clever ways to draw attention to that super-significant rock on your ring finger, casually and with (a little) dignity.
The Coffee Trick
Wherever you go, carry a coffee traveler with you. It doesn’t even need to have coffee in it. For all anyone knows, it contains water. But hold it in your left hand and “sip” from it occasionally. Your ring will be in the spotlight! And you, ever so surreptitiously, will be flaunting your engagement ring effortlessly.
Beautify Your Hands
This one’s a total no-brainer. Go visit your manicurist to have your nails shaped and painted and while you’re there, get a paraffin wax treatment to pump up the moisture. And choose a French manicure. While it’s tempting to get a set of completely mad and unhinged acrylic nails with rhinestones and other embellishments, why would you want to upstage The Ring? Girl, no! Keep it simple and go with stunningly smooth, well-groomed hands that feature your engagement ring.
Gather the Brunch Crew
Your crew is ground zero for engagement ring flaunting. For, once they have viewed The Ring, everyone will know its precise dimensions, carat size, and perhaps even its price (but only if you want to go there). So gather them together for a Sunday brunch, sip from your coffee traveler with your manicured, moisturized hands, and listen to them squeal with excitement. This is your moment, baby! And once they’ve all been enraptured by the stunning rock on your finger, you can brag about the fabulous honeymoon in Dubai you’re planning.
Pretend You’re Italian
Or maybe you are Italian and you have a favorite uncle whose expressive hands you can watch and learn from. Whatever your cultural background, waving your hands around to underscore every point you’re making or just sweeping your hand before you while saying, “What a beautiful sidewalk! No wads of gum to stick to my shoes” is a winner. The more you wave your hands (especially the left one) the more play The Ring gets. This is flaunting gold!
The Kelly Bag Maneuver
The Kelly bag is named for iconic actress Grace Kelly, who went on to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco. Worn on the crook of the arm – the left arm, of course – the Kelly bag maneuver is best deployed at a cocktail party, an art opening, or anywhere people are gathered to stand around and talk. As your bag is in the crook of your left arm, this move is tailor-made for the freshly-engaged woman. Remember to hold the palm of your hand toward you to maximize your shameless flaunting!
Reduce Distractions
Minimalist dressing is elegant. No-frills dressing also provides a blank canvas to highlight the wonders of The Ring! You’ll need a lot of monochromatic clothing, preferably black. Black turtlenecks or long-sleeved t-shirts are particularly effective, especially when worn with black pants or jeans. While people may mistake you for an anarchist or possibly a sign language expert, engagement ring flaunting is taken up a notch when you reduce frilly distractions. The Ring is center stage!
Remote Flaunting Engagement Ring
You all knew I’d get to this one. We are, indeed, going the social media route but we’re going in style. Here are a couple of ways to flaunt your engagement ring on the interwebs:
- Create an online identity for The Ring.
Give The Ring its own Facebook page, Twitter ID, TikTok, and Instagram personas. Then, follow all your friends! Soon, that tasty rock will have accomplished world domination. - Make The Ring its own promotional video.
Using your phone, make a striking video of The Ring. Open with a shot of the delightful velvet box it came in being opened to reveal the rock. The next shot is of your hand, lying attractively on a lush, velvet cushion, sporting The Ring. Finally, the money shot! Your hand – wearing The Ring – held as close to your phone as it can be, shining forth in its full glory.
These are just a few clever ways to flaunt your engagement ring without being a complete pain in the neck about it. From covert and subtle to technologically supported and a bit brash, these tips will get you started (but I’m sure you have ideas of your own). And by the way – congratulations on your engagement!
