Igbo traders who closed down Alaba International market, on Thursday, 9th of June – to register for PVC in Ojo Igbede, Lagos, were attacked by thugs at the registration center.
Several videos showed people scampering to safety as thugs armed with machetes, bottle and stone gave the Igbo traders a hot chase.
In one of the videos, a man is seen spitting blood out of his mouth as a result of injuries he sustained, and when asked what happened, he said he doesn’t know why he was attacked by the thugs.
The voice behind the video said, they only went to Ojo Igbede, to register for their Permanent Voters Card, PVC, and some thugs were sent to attack them and disrupt the registration process.

MAN Accused INEC STAFF Of REFUSING To REGISTER IGBO In Ojo, Lagos
In another video, a man who spoke in Igbo dialect accused INEC staff of refusing to register Igbo who went for registering PVC in Ojo Igbede, Lagos State.
He said, despite the Market leaders closing the Alaba market to enable them register for PVC but they were not being attended to. He claimed that an Igbo staff amongst the INEC staff in Ojo Igbede, was threatened if he register Igbo People.
Translating his words in English, he said: “We are going home. The INEC NIGERIA officials here told us that they have express instruction to not register Igbo people. Only Yoruba people are to be registered. Even the Igbo guy that works with them has been threatened. They said if we stick around, they will invite thugs to come & harass us. Remember we locked up our shops for today, just for this exercise.”
