Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has lambasted the former Senate Minority leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, for leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
AbaCityBlog recall that Abaribe had left the PDP and joined the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in Abia and will be seeking re-election for Abia South senatorial zone come 2023.
Abaribe exited the party, after Abia PDP denied him 2023 governorship ticket. Although, in his resignation letter, the outspoken lawmaker said, what he saw in the party led to his exit. According to him, the PDP governorship primary election conducted in Abia, which produced Prof Uchenna Ikonne as Ikpeazu’s successor was a total charade.
However, with Gov Ikpeazu wining the PDP ticket for Abia South Senate, Abaribe will be contesting against the governor in a race on who will represent the senatorial zone which he (Abaribe) has been representing over 16 years.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Dickson Iroegbu, anchor of “NigeriaRightNow” – Ikpeazu described Abaribe’s decision as improper. He said, Abaribe left because party told him to wait.
According to Ikpeazu, PDP made Abaribe everything and leaving the party because he was told to wait is an act of cowardice.
He said: “PDP made him everything, he was a deputy governor for 4 years, and a Senator for 16 years”, what else does he want? The governor quips.
