The newly appointed Chairman of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba and former Super Eagles Captain, Mr. Kanu Nwankwo, popularly known as Papilo has said he understood the task in the club is huge but it’s doable.
This is even as he said that some persons would want to resist the change and sanity he wants to bring in Enyimba Footbal Club Aba because of such persons’ personal interests, but that he would do what is right to ensure that the club succeeds, in the interest of the state.
Kanu made the submission on Friday 21st July, 2023 when he was received by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, at his office in Government House Umuahia, on behalf of the Governor at a brief occasion marking his official assumption of office as Chairman of Enyimba.
He disclosed that the visit was to mark his official take-off as Chairman and disclosed that in line with his work ethics, he would put in 100% work to ensure that the state is made proud through the Football Club.
On the alleged sack of all staff of the Club, Kanu dismissed the report and insisted that as a new chairman in charge, he has a duty of carrying out a holistic review and reorganisation geared towards achieving the desired result, and explained that as an experienced footballer, he understands how Football contracts work and thus would never indulge in illegality.
The Atlanta Olympics 96 hero restated his position that anyone that’s engaged in Enyimba must be doing something, because it’s wrong for government to be paying people who are doing nothing and explained that though the task in Enyimba is huge, but that it’s doable.
He promised to attract investment and goodwill to the state through the Football Club and appealed for the cooperation of all.
Speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Caleb Ajagba PhD welcomed the new chairman and his team and disclosed that the gathering had the blessings of the Governor.
He said it was time when sons and daughters of the state who had made the country proud in the past must come together and work for the progress and development of the state, and made it clear that because Governor Alex Otti cherishes excellence, kanu and his team would enjoy the support of the Governor
The Chief of Staff exolained that expectations are high, but expressed joy thatt the ex international has what it takes to succeed, and disclosed that all appointees of the Governor are expected to look for creative ways to discharge their responsibilities.
Present during the visit were the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, his sports counterpart, Mt. Nwaobilor Ananaba, Specia Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma and others.
