The Sokoto State Government has reacted to the killing of a female student of Shehu Shagari College Of Education by Muslim mob over blasphemy.
AbaCityBlog reported that the lady, a Christian, whose name is simply identified as Deborah, was lynched to death early hours of today and her corpse was set ablaze by religious fanatics who found her words derogatory against Prophet Mohammed.
The action of the Muslim mob who killed and set her corpse ablaze has led to the closure of the school indefinitely.
Reacting, the Sokoto State Government has ordered an investigation to be carried out. The state Commissioner for information, ALH. ISAH BAJINI GALADANCI, in a statement, said the governor has “directed the Ministry of Higher Education, and relevant Security agencies in the State to commence investigations into the remote and immediate causes of the incident and reportback to the Government.”
The full statement reads:
“It has come to the notice of Sokoto State Government, the unfortunate incident that took place at the Shehu Shagari College of Education (SSCOE) Sokoto in which a Student of the College, lost her life.
“The Government has ordered the immediate closure of the College. Already, the State Governor Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has directed the Ministry of Higher Education, and relevant Security agencies in the State to commence investigations into the remote and immediate causes of the incident and reportback to the Government.
“Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has called on the people of the State to remain calm and maintain peace, as the Government would take appropriate actions on the findings of the investigations by the the relevant authority.
