Following the call by an unknown group in Abia State who are demanding for the seat of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North senatorial zone to be declared vacant by the Senate.
Hon. Maduka Okoro, the media aide to the Senate Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Dr. Orji Kalu, has lambasted those behind the call. According to him, those are detractors, losers who are only trying to get to the senate through the backdoor.
It should recall that Orji Kalu, a former Abia governor is standing trial for alleged money laundering, but Nigeria’s constitution does not permit the senate to declare his seat vacant until he exhaust his legal means. With this, Hon. Okoro has lashed out, at those he called “detractors”.
In a press statement sent to Abacityblog, the outspoken media aide and political analyst, described Orji Kalu as the best thing that has ever happened to the people of Abia North.
He further stated that Senator Kalu’s short absence does not stop the zone from enjoying the dividends of democracy as many projects he attracted during his nine months in the office still show.
“The seat of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is not vacant and cannot be vacant following the constitution of Fed Republic of Nigeria, his short absence has not affected the dividend of democracy as evidence of projects attracted by him within his 9 months in the office”, Hon. Okoro said.
“The intelligent people of Abia North can not be hoodwinked by any individual or individuals because of their selfish interest, their ignorance and their parochial pursuit.
“That Abia North are solidly behind his excellency Dr. OUK, and their unwavering love and support cannot be shaken.
“Those that lost the confidence of Ndi Abia North during the last 2019 election should rally round the Chief Whip of the senate to collectively work for the betterment of Abia North who have suffered for many years.
“Abia North is proud to have somebody in the person of Orji Uzor Kalu, who has the international exposure to bring to Abia North what they have not gotten for many years”, Hon. Okoro concluded.
