The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has congratulated Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, for setting a new Guinness World Record.
AbaCityBlog reports that the Akwa-Ibom born chef sets a new Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” after hitting the 87 hours 50 minutes mark.
Baci who began the competition on Thursday after she turned on her cooker at 4pm and surpassed the current world record holder on Monday morning, will be displacing the current world record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved the feat in 2019 with 87 hours 45 minutes record uninterrupted cooking.
The cooking marathon is currently ongoing at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State.
While Nigerians, including several celebrities defied the rain to physically cheer up the visibly tired restauranteur, Senator Kalu had join has joined other well meaning Nigerians who had sent her a congratulatory message for her resilience and consistency.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Senator Kalu said Baci’s feat should serve as motivation for everyone out there, adding that, “you can do whatever you set your mind to do.”
The post read:
“One of the reasons I love our Dear Nation Nigeria is because of the resilience our people constantly show and the hard working spirit of the average Nigerian.
“As Nigerian born Hilda Baci has broken the former record for longest cooking hours by an individual.
“Cooking for over 88 hours and is still cooking beating the old record of 87 hours, 45 minutes.
“I congratulate this RECORD BREAKER.
“We are all proud of you.
“Let this also serve as motivation for everyone out there, you can do whatever you set your mind to do.
