Less than 24 hours after it was presented at the floor of the Red Chambers of the National assembly, the Nigerian Senate has on Wednesday granted second reading to a bill for establishment of the Federal College of Education Arochukwu in Abia-North Senatorial District of Abia State.
The Senate granted the passed second reading after an elaborate debate by Bill’s sponsor, Chief Whip of the Senate Orji Kalu during Wednesday’s plenary. Following contributions by the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Robert Ajayi Boroffice and Senator Adamu Aliero the Apex parliamentarians in an unanimous voice vote presided by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan passed the second reading of the bill and was referred to the Senate Committee on Tertiary institutions to report back within four weeks.
In a similar development the Senate on Wednesday also granted the first reading of a Bill sponsored by Senator Orji Kalu for the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic, Abiriba, Abia Northof Abia state. The bill titled Federal ( Amendment) Bill, 2022 (SB 980) was granted first reading after a voice vote presided by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
