RUGA will lift many Nigerians from unemployment – Basheer Umar

Basheer Umar, the national coordinator, Buhari Mass Movement (BMM) in the 2015 and 2019 general election, have said that the suspended Rural Grazing Area, RUGA, project was misinterpreted.

This is even as he stated that the project, will lift many Nigerians from unemployment, adding that the states rejecting the project will benefit more when it’s established.

It should be recalled that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had suggested and began the project nationwide with stakeholders not carried along. He said the initiative will bring a permanent end to herders and farmers clashes across Nigeria.

Although it is said to be optional for interested states, the implementation of the projects in some states that rejected it fuelled speculations that the government was being economical with the truth.

Those who rejected the move accused the federal government of spreading land grabbing for the benefit of the Fulani tribe.

Reacting to the suspension, Mr. Umar, told The Sun, that RUGA project will develop our milk and meat industries.

He said; “The RUGA policy is a good one but it didn’t get the required enlightenment before it was tabled to the public. I also feel that it should not be forced on any state government, especially those against it.

“The government should take the project to where they need it. We are very eager to see the end of Fulani herdsmen and farmers clashes. RUGA will develop our milk and meat industries.

“More people will be lifted from unemployment and I assure you beneficiaries of the RUGA policy will also come from the states that are vehemently rejecting it.
