As the debate and online campaign for the 2023 presidential election gathers momentum, supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, has shared an old document of their candidate while he was Anambra State governor.
The document (dated 13th February, 2007) contained an offer and response of the then Anambra State governor, Peter Obi to the State Housing Development Corporation has emerged online.
In the first document, Mike Nwafor, the then Managing Director/Chief Executive of Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, offered Governor Obi two plots of land at the Hill View Estate, Nkwelle-Ezenaka.
The two plots of land, according to document sighted by AbaCityBlog was to be (sold) to Governor Obi at a premium payable price of N100, 000 (One hundred thousand Naira) – and he was expected to make payment within 30 days from the date of the offer.
The document narrated that Mr. Nwafor’s led Anambra Housing Development Corporation was using the land to thank Mr. Obi for his assistance in realization of the estate.
However, responding to the offer, Peter Obi in a letter dated 8th May, 2007 – appreciated Mr Nwafor for his thoughtfulness and, he went further to state his reasons while he rejected the offer.
Obi said, he had made it clear that becoming a governor is by God’s grace and he was only called to serve and not to benefit from it.

ALLOCATION OF TWO PLOTS OF LAND: PLOT 29/L255 AND PLOT 29/L254
I write to acknowledge receipt of your letters of 07/5/07 and 13/02/07 with
the reference numbers of EDA 19/Vol. IV and EDA 40/Vol/1, conveying the
allocation of two plots of land – Plot 29/L255 and Plot 29/L254 – at the Hill
View Estate, Nkwelle-Ezenaka to me.However, as I have made abundantly clear, my being the Governor is by the Grace of God and I believe firmly that it is wrong to benefit from that.
I became the Governor because I wish to serve my people, and to do that devotedly, I believe I have to distance myself from undue privileges of the office.
Consequently, as I thank you for your thoughtfulness, I wish to decline the allocation based on the reasons already adduced.
