President Donald J. Trump has reacted to the suspension of his personal account @realDonaldTrump by the US based micro-blog, Twitter.
The suspension of the account came on the heels of petition Twitter received regarding Trump’s account allegedly posing as a threat to the United States.
Revealing while the Trump’s account was banned, Twitter, in a blog post said Mr. Trump’s personal @realDonaldTrump account, which has more than 88 million followers, violated its rules against glorifying violence.
According to the company, two tweets that Mr. Trump had posted on Friday — one calling his supporters “patriots” and another saying he would not go to the presidential inauguration on Jan. 20 — violated its rules.
The tweets “were highly likely to encourage and inspire people to replicate the criminal acts that took place at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021,” Twitter said, referring to the storming of the Capitol by a mob of Trump loyalists.
However, in a swift response, President Trump said Twitter’s decision to suspend his account showed the firm has has gone out of control especially, in regards to freedom of speech.
In a statement he personally signed, Trump said;
“As I have been saying for a long time, Twitter has gone further and further in banning free speech, and tonight, Twitter employees have coordinated with the Democrats and the Radical Left in removing my account from their platform, to silence me – and YOU, the 75,000,000 great patriots who voted for me.
Twitter may be a private company, but without the government’s gift of Section 230 they would not exist for long.
“I predicted this would happen. We have been negotiating with various other sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future. We will not be SILENCED!
“Twitter is not about FREE SPEECH. They are all about promoting a Radical Left platform where some of the most
vicious people in the world are allowed to speak freely.“STAY TUNED!”
