Festus Keyamo, spokesperson to Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign council has reacted to Chimamanda Adichie’s letter to Joe Biden saying it will be disregarded and trashed by the US government.
Keyamo, who stated this in a statement released on his verified Twitter handle on Friday, added that the writer’s open letter to Biden compared Chimamanda Adichie’s open letter to US President to Donald Trump’s refusal to accept defeat after losing the 2020 election.
The US-based Nigerian novelist on Thursday wrote an open letter to President Biden, urging him not to accept the presidential election results that produced Bola Tinubu, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, as the ‘winner’, and describing the Nigerian 2023 election as badly flawed.
She said Tinubu’s victory was illegitimate as the process of the February 25 presidential election was not marred by technical faults as claimed by the INEC but a deliberate manipulation by the electoral umpire.
The writer added that the election was full of discrepancies and irregularities which were all shunned by the INEC.
Reacting to the letter, Keyamo called Chimamanda’s claims in the open letter “false,” stating that the US government will not take them seriously.
His statement reads:
“More tragic is that some rabid supporters here are falling over themselves in deluded ecstasy for such a worthless letter that may not even be considered worthy enough, in a diplomatic sense, for the attention of even a stenographer to an Under Secretary in the US.
“Such only paints the picture of a band of drowning supporters clutching at any straw to stay afloat.
“As for the empirical fallacies contained in the letter, I will not bother myself here with a lengthy response as enough have been said in the last few weeks in respect of those specific issues and all the issues are before our Justices awaiting adjudication.
“But I have bad news for them: the stenographer will probably toss the letter into a trash bin with the conclusion that it is no more than the tantrums of a Trump reincarnate in Nigeria – those who refuse to accept obvious defeat! Yes, the US has the likes of that writer in their midst too!”
