A twitter user, @wakajugbe has shared photos of dead bird which flew all the way from Finland to Delta State, Nigeria.
The bird according to ‘Jugbe’ was killed in a village called Ofagbe in Delta State.
A tag on the bird’s leg shows it’s a research bird at a Museum in Helsinki, Finland.
“This is a research bird owned by the University of Helsinki. Birds are often released by research institutes for study & experimental purposes hence the tag. Also, birds seen as “last of their kind” are also released for procreation & preservation. IT’S A RESEARCH BIRD!!”, a social media user twitted in reaction to the picture of the bird.
Meanwhile, a little research shows that The Helsinki Lab of Ornithology (HelLO) research group, located at the Finnish Museum of Natural History, was established in January 2013 and is led by Academy Research Fellow Aleksi Lehikoinen.
According to the official website of the museum, “the group is studying for instance factors affecting abundance and distribution of breeding, wintering and migrating birds, using especially data from long-term monitoring schemes collected with the help of volunteer birders.
