Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, on Monday paid a visit to the home of Mrs Jennifer Efidi the woman attacked by political thugs during February 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections in Lagos State.
According to reports and interviews, Mrs Efidi was attacked by thugs, who injured her face while trying to prevent voters from voting for the Labour Party candidate in her polling unit.
Despite the attack, Mrs Jennifer came back after treatment and cast her vote, an act which generated lots of reactions online, as Nigerians praised her act of bravery and made some donation to her.
Speaking on the visit, Obi described Mrs Jennifer as “a true manifestation of Profiles in Courage for a new Nigeria”.
“Today, I visited Mrs Jennifer Efidi. She was attacked on 25th February in an attempt to stop her from voting, but she stood her ground. Jennifer is one of the great icons of Nigeria’s democracy.”
“She is my point of contact with every Nigerian who suffered a similar fate in their bid to exercise their voting rights, and contribute to a new Nigeria. Like many Nigerians, I acknowledge her bravery and resoluteness.”
