Mr. Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, has responded to the treason allegation on him by the Federal Government through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
AbaCityBlog reports that Alhaji Mohammed had on April 4th accused Mr Obi of treason. The Minister made the allegation in Washington DC during his official engagements with some international media organisations.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, quoted Mohammed to have said that Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed committed treason as the latter vowed to recover their mandate through legal means.
“Obi and his Vice, Datti Ahmed cannot be threatening Nigerians that if the President-elect, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is sworn-in on May 29, it will be the end of democracy in Nigeria”, Mohammed said.
“This is treason. You cannot be inviting insurrection, and this is what they are doing.
“Obi’s statement is that of a desperate person, he is not the democrat that he claimed to be.
“A democrat should not believe in democracy only when he wins the election,” he said.
Responding, Peter Obi, a former Anambra State governor during his recent interview on AriseTV on Tuesday night described Mohammed’s journey to Washington DC as a financial rascality.
He said: “Lai Mohammed calling me out for treason is the height of rascality. I was in Onitsha and he went to Washington D.C to make that declaration. This is a waste of government resources, that money should have been channeled to build more classrooms.”
