Nigerians are currently trending the hash tag #payusviaBVN on twitter, following the 14-day extension of the COVID19 pandemic lockdown in Lagos and Ogun States, including the FCT by Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari.
The concerned citizens asked the ministry of humanitarian affairs to do the needful, than alleging they are sharing the money to the poorest Nigerians.
“You think Buhari’s government does not know that paying via bvn is the easiest and most transparent way they can pay us? They know. Their only problem is that with this method, adequate accounts can be kept about their expenses and they won’t be able to steal much,” Dr. Penking wrote on twitter.

The Bank Verification Number commonly called BVN is a biometric identification system implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria to curb or reduce illegal banking transactions in Nigeria. It is a modern security measure in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 1958 to reduce fraud in the banking system.
Nigerians noted that a good amount of donations were made by wealthy individuals and corporate organizations, adding “we can’t go another 14 days in emptiness.”
