The city of Enugu brightened up with the creative works of 100 young Nigerian artists, as dignitaries and art lovers from around Nigeria converged to celebrate the creative brilliance of the artists at the grand finale of the 15 edition of Life in my City Arts Festival (LIMCAF), which was held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu on the 29 October 2022.
The Life in My City Art Festival (LIMCAF) is an annual art festival that celebrates and encourages young artists around Nigeria. This year, the theme of the art festival was “Paradox of muted echoes” and there were over 250 art entries interpreting the theme in different categories including fashion and textile design, photography, graphics design, ceramics and painting.
One hundred artworks made it to the finale exhibition, 25 artists made it to the finals, 14 artists received consolation prizes and five artists received prizes ranging from 100,000 – 150,000 from individual sponsors. Five artists received 250,000 for emerging first in their different categories and the overall winner, Samson Ejiofor received a cash prize of 500,000.
The 2022 Life in My City Arts Festival was held in partnership with several individuals and organisations, including the MTN Foundation. Speaking at the grand finale ceremony, the Director of MTN Foundation, Dennis Okoro, congratulated all the winning artists and encouraged those who didn’t win, to not give up and work harder.
He also advised the young artists present, saying “My advice to all young artists here is that you learn to work on your communication skills. Proper communication and education about your artwork are essential, and they are key to helping an artist sell their works.”
The MTN Foundation has been an avid supporter of the Life in My City Arts Festival and continues to support youth empowerment through scholarships, business grants and partnerships on various creative projects and theatre productions.
