The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has said his administration is not chasing the Igbo out of the State contrary to what has been shared on social media.
Wike’s comment came on the heels of the alleged killings of Igbo youths in Oyigbo Rivers State. The crisis which allegedly followed the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest in the State.
There are media reports that Wike is chasing the Igbo out of his state by hiding under the clash between the Nigerian Soldiers and the members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. The clash according to reports, claimed the lives of six security personnel and four IPOB members.
Reacting over the clash, Governor Wike declared manhunt on the IPOB members which resulted to military harassment of the innocent youths in the Oyigbo.
Worried over the numerous reports received, the Igbo elites after meeting in Enugu on Friday embarked on a fact finding journey to meet with the Rivers State governor to discussed on the way forward.
“In the wake of the Oyigbo crisis, people peddled the rumour that I am chasing Igbos out of Rivers State which is not true because the state has an enduring relationship with the Igbos”, Wike wrote on his twitter handle.
According to the governor, “Rivers people will continue to live together with Igbos”.
“Don’t allow your sons to tell you lies. Igbos are innovative and hardworking. There can’t be Nigeria without Igbos.
“Nobody should take them for granted. But that doesn’t mean you must allow criminals to spoil your name.
“If I hate Igbos, I won’t appoint your son into my state cabinet two times. But you have to obey rules. Don’t allow criminals to dictate to you.
