The Senate Chief Whip and Chieftain of All Progressive Congress, APC, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has congratulated the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for electing a presidential candidate from the North-East to fly the party’s flag in the 2023 general election.
This is even as he called on President Muhammadu Buhari to pick a presidential candidate, also from the North-East to fly the ruling APC party flag in the person of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
Kalu, who has been agitating for power shift to the South East, had stressed that if the South-West and South-South will not support a South-East presidential candidate, let power return to North-East.
Hours after the PDP elected Atiku Abubakar as the party’s Presidential candidate, Kalu, in a Facebook post, urged the ruling APC to file a North Easterner to enable the party win the 2023 presidential election.
The former Abia State governor said if a presidential candidate from North East succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, then South East will be next in line to produce a President since every region has produced a president.
He said:
“Congratulations to the PDP for electing a North Easterner. Nigerians must have seen what I saw yesterday. For our party the APC, it is no longer feasible to talk about Southern candidate except the APC want to go on political retirement.
“I urge the National Chairman of the party and the entire NWC to stamp their feet and zone APC presidential ticket to the North East .
“President Muhammad Buhari has a right to choose his successor and I call on him to pick Senator Ahmad Lawan as his successor. In every democratic setting, presidents and Governors support and pick their successors . I call on President Buhari to pick a successor from North East and that will be the equity the South East need. With North East , the cycle will be closest to completion of regions producing president of Nigeria.
“By now , all APC aspirants should drop their ambition and support a North Easterner . Senator Ahmad Lawan is the destination.
“Congratulations to North East as we look forward to a president of Nigeria from the North East .
