The first rain of the year in Aba, the commercial city of Abia State claimed the life of a commercial motorcycle rider popular known as Okada.
The man, whose identity could not be ascertained by AbaCityBlog at the time of this report was said to have fallen inside the ongoing erosion control site along Port Harcourt road by Jonah during the heavy rain which fell on Saturday, 8th January 2022.
Reports has it that the man fell inside the ongoing erosion control site which was filled with stormy waters and got drowned – as he skidded off the little space reserved for the motorists.
An eyewitness said they saw the moment the man fell inside the erosion control site, an ongoing project by the Abia State government to control stormy waters from Uratta, Port Harcourt road and other areas around the axis.
While the man fell in on Saturday during the heavy downpour, passersby was said to have tried to rescue him, but couldn’t because of the stormy waters, however, his corpse was removed the next day, Sunday, 9th January 2022.
“His corpse was found on Sunday, we saw people gathered and some men dive into the stormy waters and dragged out his corpse, they did some rituals before they took the corpse away”, an eyewitness told AbaCityBlog.

Meanwhile, the Abia State government is yet to react to the incident.
