Pursuant to a duly constituted meeting of stakeholders of OKON-AKU Ohafia which produced new crop of leaders that would steer the affairs of the “A” community for at least one calendar year of 2020, the interim President has reacted in a Press Statement he signed and sent to Ohafiatv News on Thursday.
In his statement, the new President General, Dr Umeh Kalu Nmecha expressed delight for the opportunity given him and his members to steer OKON-AKU Ohafia with focus on the need to boost her potentialities and duly return her on the path of peace that can guarantee steady growth and uninhibited progress.
He said that for this to be achieved, there must be a paradigm shift in ideology and approach to execution of policies, stating that his leadership will be anchored on transparency, accountability and entertainment of public opinion where such is beneficial to the set goal of the people and insisted that the truest principle to adopt shall be “Okon-Aku First”.
The statement read in part, “We have come to a stage where we must go for positive ideas to project a more prosperous community by looking beyond what we have now, and focus more on what we can still achieve.
“I must say that this honour to serve Okon-Aku in the capacity of ODU President General is a rare opportunity that must not be taken for granted because a life time is measured, not by ‘How Long’, but ‘How Well’. Therefore I am not asking for what is not, rather I am hoping on what can be, which will be possible only if we work together as a people with one mind in one accord for the greater good of our inheritance, OKON-AKU First.
“We must bury our grudges, forgive each other and remember that the unity of our community will benefit us more when we are United than when we are apart. We must find the need to work for Okon-Aku with our whole being so that posterity will always judge us kindly.
“I wish to use this medium to say thank you to all former OKON-AKU Development Union President Generals, and former Executives of the great Union for their services to our community. I will also thank The OKON-AKU Christian Fellowship (OCF) and my family for their unflinching support and I promise to make them proud in this lofty assignment” the statement concludes.
Furthermore, Dr Umeh Kalu assured the community that with the crop of people he has in his team, he was confident that the period for which they will hold unto leadership will spell good because he intent to run an all inclusive government where only the right ideas will supersede sentiments and wanton emotions by rebirthing our true conciousness.
He also thanked the Nnaka Cabinet, Ndi Ezie Ogo, Ndi Inyom Nkwa, youths and political stalwarts of OKON-AKU for always opting for dialogue and compromise in the progress march to greater future of OKON-AKU Ohafia, the land of the great kings.
