Veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu has been released from the custody of the Department Security Service, DSS.
The actor shared the news via his Instagram page, he thanked those who worked tirelessly for his release and most especially, the members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
Abacityblog reported that Chiwetalu Agu was earlier arrested by the army on Thursday around Upper Iweka Bridge in Onitsha for wearing an outfit with Biafra inscriptions.
Agu who spent a night in the military custody was reportedly on a charity mission to the less privileged when he was arrested by soldiers.
The Nigerian Army in a statement had said that the actor was arrested “while inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.”
Agu was later released following the intervention of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN.
Subsequently, the veteran actor was rearrested by the DSS.
DSS Spokesman, Dr Peter Afunaya, told Punch Newspaper that it was the military that handed Chiwetalu Agu to them for questioning.
“Army brought him to us. Justice will take its course.”
