Barrister Victor Onweremmadu, the immediate past Vice Chairman of the NBA Aba Branch and a current member of the General Council of the Bar, in an exclusive interview with AbaCityBlog said the judiciary has never suffered humiliation since the creation of Nigeria as it has recently under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the Human Rights Activist, this administration relegated the rule of law to its bearest minimum and wanted to kill the rule of law.
He however, said the recent judgement on Nnamdi Kanu’s case at the Appeal Court discharging and acquit the IPOB leader is enough reason to trust the judiciary.
He also, noted that the judiciary has come of age. The courage of the judiciary has shown its Independence.
In his words, Barrister Onweremmadu said: “Nigeria is a corrupt country, almost all sectors are corrupt but we cannot allow the last hope of the common man which is the legal profession to join the bandwagon. We can’t allow it to be riddled with corruption. We must protect its sanctity.
“I want all the people of Nigeria and Abia to keep trusting the judiciary. The recent judgement on Nnamdi Kanu’s case at the Appeal Court is enough reason to trust the judiciary. The judiciary has come of age. The courage of the judiciary has shown its Independence.
“Our judiciary has never suffered humiliation since the creation of Nigeria as it has recently under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. This administration relegated the rule of law to its bearest minimum and wanted to kill the rule of law. A government that said that security units are above the rule of law.
“The intimidation of judges and the inversion of judges’ homes by midnight all happened in this administration. So for the court to still stand on its ground to deliver such a landmark judgement requires commendation. People should continue to have confidence in the judiciary.
