Citing her Legislative representation which they described as outstanding and proactive, Traditional Rulers in Anaocha local government area have conferred a revered Chieftaincy title on Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District Senator Uche Ekwunife.
The development is sequel to the endorsement of Senator Uche Ekwunife’s 2023 return bid to the Senate by the Traditional leaders hinging their decision on the Legislative Excellence of Ekwunife since her election in 2019.
According to the Chairman Anaocha Council of Traditional Rulers Igwe Augustine Oragwam;
“We are conferring her with the Chieftaincy title because of her outstanding representation in Anambra Central Senatorial District and beyond. Right here in Anaocha local government area, we are highly impressed with what she has been doing for us.”
“This is a woman who chose to give representation a human face and she has taking the people to greater heights and this is not a senator that is totally disconnected from the masses”
Speaking to reporters shortly after the conferment on Friday, Sen Uche Ekwunife described party politics as one that has to do with brotherhood and not bitterness.
“You can be in APGA, APC or PDP and play your politics without bitterness and what matters here is that we are one and as I can see the faces of people from several political parties and that is the beauty of politics; she said.
Speaking earlier the Anaocha local government area Chairman Mr Gerard Ikechukwu Ozo stated that irrespective of political party affinity he is the chairman of everyone including Sen Uche Ekwunife.
“We commend Sen Uche Ekwunife for offering effective and purposeful representation and we urge her to continue giving our people quality representation; he said.
Taking to her social media handle , the Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party expressed her gratitude to the community for bestowing her with such an honour. Writing , Ekwunife said Anaocha remained dear to her heart.
“Anaocha is one LGA I hold dear to my heart. My political journey is incomplete without the support and encouragement of the people of this great local government – one of the largest in our Senatorial District.
“Anaocha has been home since I was united in love with my beloved husband, Chief Larry Ekwunife (Ozo Okutaoluoibe na Nri) who as always, stood by my side today as I received this prestigious title. The hospitality I received from the first day I stepped into Anaocha as a young married woman had spurred me to be a shining light upon this great local government.
“I am grateful for the records of my representation in Anaocha and the other local governments under our Senatorial District – this I believe had motivated this honour by the Royal Fathers.
“This recognition is only but a call for me not to rest on my laurels. I will not relent in my pursuit to offer the people of Anambra Central Senatorial District the representation they truly deserve. I shall continue to build on the achievements we have recorded so far. I thank our Royal Fathers for this recognition.
She reassured the constituents’ of her commitment towards delivering an unparalleled and unmatched representation to the people.
In a related development, A Pan Igbo Think Tank, Igbo Oriental Think Tank Worldwide has felicitated with Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife, Iyom over her investiture with a Chieftaincy Title of IFEOMACHUKWU MELU ANAOCHA by the Council of Traditional Rulers of all the Communities that make up Anaocha Local Government Area.
In their commendation, the Patron of the Igbo Group, His Excellency, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Okwadike, expressed happiness that his in-laws could come up with such a prestigious title for a wonderful daughter who has shown great capacity in delivering Dividends of Democracy to the people. “I thank Iyom for doing what God has positioned her for, serving the people, and being a succour to many”; Okwadike said.
