The management of Merry Home Hotel Aba, Abia State has reacted to the reports making rounds about missing persons and murder in their facility.
Merry Home, popular known as “Home away” – located around 7up axis of Ogbor Hill, Aba, the commercial hub of the State – becomes a media focus following a series of allegations of criminal activities taking place on the hotel premises.
The recent one is the death of a young lady who came in with two young boys and a baby in the afternoon and as confirmed by the CCTV, the boys left with the baby in the evening without the lady only for the hotel management to break into the room around midnight and found the lady dead with her body dismembered.
Reacting, Abia State Government, through the commissioner for information, Eze Chikamnayo, shut down the hotel, pending an investigation by the Police.
Merry Home Hotel limited, in a statement signed by Felix E. Abengowe – the management said its regret the sad murder incident, noting that the entire staff and management will assist the Police to apprehend the culprits behind the killing.
The management, however, said despite the fact that they’re security conscious, but it might be difficult to know what happens inside the hotel rooms, as guests enjoy privacy and there was no cry for help.
The hotel management therefore appealed to the general public to disregard any false report, stressing that detractors are out to “tarnish the image of our Hotel/Management.”
The full statement reads:
“The entire staff and management of Merry Home Hotel, Aba Abia state wishes to react to the news making the rounds on the unfortunate incident that occurred in our hotel recently, but with a lot of distorted facts which went viral and leading to the closure of the Hotel by Abia state Government.
“We therefore wish to state the facts of the matter as followings:-
“That we regret and condemn the sad murder incident of a lady whose child was also taken away alive as recorded at the hotel on 15th of April 2022.
“That the staff and Management are security conscious in and around the premises of the hotel but may not be in a position to know what happens inside the hotel rooms, as guests enjoy privacy and there was no cry for help.
“As people in the hospitality business and a responsible firm, we had put in place good security measures and have thus assisted the Police in a huge way in their investigations, believing that the Police will, as usual see to it that the culprits will be apprehended and made to face the long arms of the law.
“That it is an unfounded falsehood the claim by some reports that there have been murder incidents this year in our hotel.
“That the claim that their have been cases of missing persons in the hotel is equally a total falsehood as the hotel has not recorded any such incident and challenge anyone with proof to forward it to the Police State CID for investigation.
“However, we want to thank the Abia State Government for taking a proactive step and prempt hoodlums from taking undue advantage of the peddled false reports to cause mayhem.
“We wish to assure our valued customers and general public that, despite this setback which we are sure the Police will unravel soon, Merry Home Hotels Ltd remains your “Home away” from home.
“We therefore appeal and urge the general public to disregard any report meant to distort facts as they are the handwork of detractors who are out to tarnish the image of our Hotel/Management.
“We shall keep you posted as events unfold as we are sure, justice will be served and the wicked can never go unpunished.
