…time for us all to keep Abia safe – APC

The Abia State chapter of All Progressive Congress, APC, has condemned the kidnap of unspecified number of students of Abia State University, Uturu by unknown gunmen.

Abacityblog.com reported that gunmen abducted ABSU students along Okigwe-Uturu road. The students were said to be moving in a mini van from Okigwe to Uturu between 7pm – 8pm when the gunmen stopped their vehicle and kidnapped them.

The Abia State government through the commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, in a statement said the governor has vowed to use every resources in his disposal to ensure the release of the students.

However, APC said the kidnap of the Abia students by unknown gunmen is one thing nobody in his or her right senses should keep quiet about.

The party which condemned the kidnap, described it as ‘an act of evil’.

“This is evil, terrible and unacceptable. As a political party that means well for our people, we hereby condemn the act and ask the security agencies to please up their games and rescue those innocent students.”

Reacting in the press statement signed by the state party publicity secretary, Comrade Benedict Godson, APC call on Abians from all the Senatorial Zones, irrespective of political parties, to come together and find a way to rescue the students.

The full statement read…

“Forget about politics, there will be another day for that. The main duty now as a matter of urgency is to help the security agents with relevant information that can help secure our state because Abia belongs to all of us.

“This is no time to blame anybody. This is a time for us to reason together because it is only by reasoning together that we can conquer such unspeakable acts.

“The kidnapped ones are students, they’re only studying for better tomorrow and do not deserve such evil. There’s absolutely no justification for this on the part of the perpetrators.

“As a people, we must realize that security is a serious business and we have to start seeing it so. We don’t have any other state to call ours except Abia, so we must not sit and watch Abia turned into something else.

“All over the world, security is no more business of the government only. It’s our business because a secured environment is the only environment that will thrive in business and other necessary activities.

“For the parents of our kidnapped students, we urge them to calm down and we pray together with them that their children will surely be rescued in full health.

“Abia is God’s own state and we must ensure we hand this state over to its owner. As we work together with security agents, we must also pray together as a people for God to take control His own place.
