Festus Keyamo, President Buhari 2019 Presidential Campaign Spokesperson, have continued to defend his boss, Mr. Buhari, who reports said he doesn’t have a secondary school certificate known as WAEC.
Buhari, APC presidential candidate emerged as President for the second time after February 23rd general election, which result saw him beat his close opponent, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of PDP.
Mr. Buhari’s emergence as President has raised so much dust on his educational background. Nigerian constitution has it that you must have at least “primary 6 School Leaving Certificate” for one to be elected into any public office.
This has brought the question of where is Buhari’s certificate which qualified him to become the president. An old military general who spent most of his life in the military.
Reacting to peoples demand to see his boss certificate, Keyamo, who was recently featured on ChannelsTV said Mr. Buhari doesn’t need a West African Examination Certificate to become the President.
“There are other levels of qualifications to run for the office of President. In fact, if you have occupied the public office for a reasonable length of time, by the provisions of the constitution, you do not even need a WAEC certificate to become President of Nigeria”, Keyamo said. Backing up his statement, Keyamo went further to said hence someone can “speak, write, understand and communicate in English language to the satisfaction of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). No WAEC certificate is needed to be President in Nigeria.
He said;
“Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution defines “School Certificate or its equivalent” to mean primary 6 School Leaving Certificate plus the ability to just speak, write, understand and communicate in English language to the satisfaction of INEC. No WAEC certificate is needed”
