A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has revealed that the Senate President Ahmad Lawan will pick Bola Ahmed Tinubu as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.
National Vice Chairman (North East), Mustapha Saliu stated this on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the presidential primaries of the party.
He said the party has concluded plans to pick Tinubu as the running mate of the party’s consensus candidate, Ahmad Lawan
“ The party understands that there will be disagreements on whoever becomes the consensus candidate. We also made efforts to contain and manage all issue that would arise from the party’s decision. The party after today’s event will equally announce Tinubu as Lawan’s running mate “ Saliu said
He was however reluctant to give further details as he was hurrying up for a meeting
Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State is regarded as an influential politician from the South-West geo-political zone.
Uncertainty reigned within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the announcement of Senate President Ahmed Lawan as consensus presidential candidate by the national chairman of the, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Adamu made the announcement at the meeting of party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday in Abuja.
Other aspirants including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Dr. Kayode Fayemi and David Umahi, among others will however be allowed to contest the primary at the convention holding today at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
Lawan is the current President of the Nigerian Senate. He is from Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria.
