Former senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial district in the 8th National Assembly, Senator Nelson Effiong – has been abducted by gunmen.
The former lawmaker was picked at his lounge along Oron road Uyo by three armed men on Sunday evening by the in a Toyota Camry shooting sporadically.
PMNews reports that Eight other customers at the lounge where the former Senator was picked reportedly got injured during the abduction.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, confirmed the abduction.
He also said the Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident, assuring that the victim would soon be rescued.
“The Command has received the report about the abduction of the victim and the Commissioner of Police has immediately ordered a discreet investigation into the matter. I believe that in no distance time, he would be rescued.
“The CP has also condemned the act and said no resources will be spared to ensure that he is rescued and situations like that are not tolerated. Steps have been taken and steps on the way to ensure that the situation is brought under control,” he said
Senator Effiong was also a speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly before he was elected into the red chambers.
