TC Chairman of Isuikwuato local Government in Abia state, Dr Osita Igbe, has denied a report alleging the extortion of bereaved families by unnamed staff of the Council.
In a released signed by his PA/Media Aide, Chinyere Mbeyi, Dr Igbe described the report in an online newspaper as false and capable of misleading law-abiding Citizens from following laid down procedures in obtaining official permit to bury their loved ones.
“This report should be disregarded as an unfounded rumour. Everyone in Abia state is familiar with how burial permits are obtained. An applicant obtains a form from the Chairman’s office which is duly signed by his/her traditional ruler or a priest. The signed copy is returned to the Chairman’s office and the applicant is issued a letter of approval, at no cost.
“Whoever claims to have been extorted should come forward with proof and it will be thoroughly investigated”.
Dr Igbe further advised members of the public to always use available official channels of communications to make their enquires, adding that his Management is undeterred in its resolve to serve their interest in a transparent manner.
