Hon. Promise Friday Iheasimuo, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, for Aba North/South Federal House of Representatives has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to nullify the Aba Federal Constituency election held on Friday, 25th of February, 2023.

AbaCityBlog reports that the INEC had conducted Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives election across the country on Saturday, however, Hon. Iheasimuo rejected the election, noting that the Commission omitted his party’s logo in the ballot papers.

Iheasimuo, in a statement he personally signed, said despite meeting all the necessary requirements by the INEC, the Commission excluded his party’s logo on Aba Federal House of Representatives ballot papers provided by INEC.

He described the action of INEC as shocking, and a total disenfranchisement to his teeming supporters who came out en masse to vote for him. He, however, called on his supporters to remain calm while calling on INEC to nullify the election and conduct a rerun.

The press statement reads:

Iheasimuo, APC House Of Reps Candidate for Aba Federal Constituency seek nullification of election, calls for rerun

“I, Hon Promise Friday Iheasimuo, the All Progressives Congress candidate for Aba North and Aba South Federal House of Representatives, on this day, 25th February 2023, wishes to use this medium to express my utmost displeasure with INEC for the exclusion of my party (APC) and by extension, my candidature on the ballot papers used for the Federal House of Representatives elections in today’s general election.

“I am the APC candidate fielded by my party to run for Aba North/South Federal Constituency. I have since fulfilled all requirements by INEC and even obtained a court order to persuade INEC to do the needful by uploading my name on their platform as a candidate of APC.

“It is, therefore, very shocking that my party’s logo was still missing on the Federal House of Representatives ballot papers provided by INEC today, an action which disenfranchised my teeming supporters who came out en masse to vote for me.

“While I plead with my supporters to remain calm and maintain the peace, I am calling on INEC to, with immediate effect, nullify the Aba Federal Constituency election, include my party (APC) on the ballot and conduct a fresh election as it is being done in other places where similar acts of omission occurred.

Signed
