Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has directed the probe of Rahama Sadau, a Kannywood actress, over the controversy surrounding a recent photo of her wearing a backless gown.
In a letter signed by Idowu Owohunwa, his principal staff officer, Adamu ordered Umar Muri, Kaduna state commissioner of police, to swiftly address the issue.
“I am to convey the directive of the Inspector General of Police that you treat proactively with a view to ensuring that the development does not result in any act that could threaten public peace and security,” the letter read.
“The Inspector-General of Police further directs that you furnish him with updates accordingly.”
The IGP’s directive was consequent upon a petition filed against the movie star by one Lawal Gusau.
Sadau had sparked heated controversy on Sunday after she shared photos of herself in a backless dress.
In the now-deleted photos, the 26-year-old Kannywood star had posed in a tight-fitted pink gown that exposed her skin from her neck region down to the upper section of her waist.
The development had elicited mixed reactions among several conservative Muslims.
